Roshan Lal has not been selected for the Arjuna Award 2017. Rather he was selected for the Dronacharya Award 2017 for lifetime contribution to Wrestling.

Para Athlete Devendra Jhajharia and Hockey player Sardar Singh were selected for the Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna 2017. Instituted in the year 1991-92, it is given for the spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over a period of four year. The first recipient was Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand. The winners will receive a statuettes, certificate and cash prize of Rs 7.5 lakh.

The Indian Navy on August 21, 2017 inducted a landing craft utility ship called LCU-L52. It was commissioned by Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Jagdish Mukhi at an event in Port Blair. The LCU L52 is the second Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mk-IV class to be inducted into the Indian Navy. The primary role of LCU MK-IV ship is to transport and deploy main battle tanks, armoured vehicles, troops and equipment from ship to shore.

Dacharla Panduranga Rohith, a student of SRM University in Chennai, was recognised by World Records of India, for developing a ‘nano missile’. The ‘nano missile’ is 1-cm in length and it can fly by burning the red phosphorus, and hit the target of three metres distance. The missile works on the basic cannon principle.

The United States (US) and South Korean Combined Forces Command (CFC) began the 2017 Ulchi-Freedom Guardian (UFG) Exercise on August 21, 2017. UFG is a computerized command post military Exercise. The exercises are the first large-scale U.S.-South Korea military drills since North Korea’s first-ever tests of an intercontinental-range ballistic missile (ICBM) in July 2017. This year’s exercise would, for the first time, include a nuclear war game.

Russia has designated its first indigenously designed and build fifth-generation stealth fighter the Su-57. The Sukhoi Su-57 is a fifth-generation multirole, single seat, twin-engine air superiority/deep air support fighter intended to replace the Russian Air Force’s fleet of MiG-29 and Su-27. The Su-57 will be armed with beyond visual range air-to-air missiles as well as of air-to-ground missiles including the extended range Kh-35UE tactical cruise missile.
