The India Pavilion at COP 23 was inaugurated by Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan at Bonn in Germany November 6, 2017. The theme of India Pavilion is “Conserving Now, Preserving Future”.

As part of the digital archives of the Asiatic Society, about two lakh pages of journals from as far back as 1788 till date have been put online. The Asiatic Society was founded by civil servant Sir William Jones in January, 1784. It’s headquarter is in Kolkata and its president is Professor Isha Mahammed.

The Union Power Ministry headed by Piyush Goyal has constituted a committee to probe Maharatna NTPC’s Unchahar (near Rae Bareilly) Thermal Power Plant accident in which 36 people died due to boiler blast. The committee has been constituted under the provision of Electricity Act 2003 and will be headed by PD Siwal, Member (thermal) Central Electricity Authority (CEA). It will submit report in one month.

The Union Finance Ministry has ordered a probe by the reconstituted Multi Agency Group (MAG) into the US-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’ (ICIJ) Paradise Papers leaks. The MAG will be headed by Sushil Chandra, Chairman, CBDT, having representatives from CBDT, ED, RBI & FIU. India ranks 19 in the Paradise Papers Index with some 714 Indian names in the leaked data.

Former Union Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia has been appointed as the Union Finance Secretary and he succeeded Ashok Lavasa who superannuated in October 2017.
