First-ever mid-air refuelling of LCA Tejas MK I succesfully carried by Indian Air Force.

Indian Air Force for the first time successfully conducted mid-air refuelling of Tejas MK I fighter jet by Indian Air Force’s Russian built Il-78 tanker.

  1. Dry link up means between the 2 aircrafts no fuel was transferred.
  2. IAF’s base launched the tanker in agra and LCA Tejas fighter was launched from Gwalior.
  3. Nine more tests will be held including the wet tests.

About the Tejas MK I fighter jet:

i. The fighter jet is a part of the ‘Flying Daggers’ of the 45 Squadron.
ii. the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) designed the fighter jet and it is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
iii. The IAF has 40 Tejas Mk1 fighters on order and will acquire another 83 Tejas Mk-1A fighters.
iv. Each Tejas Mk-1A will be Rs.463 cores.
